Boswellia papyrifera from Sudan is similar to the same variety from Ethiopia.  Well-established harvesting regions include the state of Blue Nile, as well as Sinnar and South Kordofan.

Due to the less intensive harvesting and the special climate, the aroma is fruitier and more intense.

Every November, the Beja clan harvest the resin as they have done for centuries.

Frankincense plays a major role in Sudanese culture, as medicine, daily use in the home and for celebrations.
